Ingredients

  • 3 lbs boneless skinless chicken breasts
  • 1.5 cups BBQ sauce
  • 0.5 medium onion, finely grated with juices
  • 1 Tbsp olive oil
  • 1 Tbsp vegetarian/halal Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 Tbsp brown sugar

Method

  1. Whisk the BBQ sauce, grated onion with juices, olive oil, Worcestershire sauce, and brown sugar together in a 5-6 quart slow cooker.
  2. Place the chicken breasts into the sauce mixture and flip to coat each piece thoroughly.
  3. Cover the slow cooker with the lid.
  4. Cook on High for 3 hours or on Low for 7 hours until the chicken is tender and reaches an internal temperature of 165°F.
  5. Use two forks to shred the chicken directly in the pot, tossing well to coat with the remaining sauce before serving.

Notes

Ensure your Worcestershire sauce is marked as vegetarian or halal to keep the recipe strictly compliant. If the sauce is too thick after cooking, you can add a tablespoon of water or broth while shredding the chicken. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
