Ingredients
  

  • 1 pound (450g) lean ground beef
  • 1 cup (120g) bread crumbs
  • 1 tablespoon ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce (halal alternative to Worcestershire)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 packet brown gravy mix or 2 tablespoons homemade
  • 1 cup (240ml) hot water

Method
 

  1. Combine beef, bread crumbs, ketchup, mustard, soy sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper in a bowl.
  2. Shape into 4 even patties using about 60g breadcrumbs per patty.
  3. Heat a skillet over medium heat and cook patties for 3-4 minutes per side until browned.
  4. Pour in 1 cup hot water and stir in the gravy mix until dissolved.
  5. Reduce heat to low and simmer gravy for 10-15 minutes, until thickened and fully absorbed.
  6. Serve immediately with preferred sides like mashed potatoes or zucchini noodles.

Notes

Use gluten-free bread crumbs if avoiding gluten.
Fresh garlic or onions can replace powdered forms.
For halal households, ensure all ingredients (e.g., ketchup) are certified halal.
Substitute ground beef with lentils or mushrooms for a vegetarian version.
Gravy can be made ahead and reheated separately if preferred.
Leftovers store well in an airtight container with separate gravy for up to 3 days.
