Ingredients

  • Beef Chuck Roast 2 pounds (80% lean recommended)
  • Olive Oil 1 tablespoon (or high-smoke oil)
  • Salt 1 teaspoon (adjust to taste)
  • Black Pepper 1/2 teaspoon (crushed preferred)
  • Paprika 1 teaspoon (for rich color and warmth)
  • Garlic Powder 1 teaspoon (can swap with fresh garlic)
  • Onion Powder 1/2 teaspoon (enhances meat sweetness)
  • Beef Broth 1 cup (low-sodium optional)
  • Tomato Paste 1 tablespoon (concentrated flavor base)
  • Worcestershire Sauce 1 tablespoon (non-alcoholic alternative)
  • Onion 1 medium (sliced; substitute with green bell pepper)
  • Sandwich Buns 4 (brioche or sourdough works)
  • Shredded Cheese 1/2 cup (Mozzarella or cheddar)

Method

  1. Pat beef dry with paper towels. Combine salt, pepper, paprika, garlic powder, and onion powder in a bowl
  2. Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium-high heat. Sear beef on all sides until browned
  3. Add sliced onion, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, and beef broth to the pot
  4. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 3-4 hours, stirring occasionally
  5. Shred beef with two forks once fully tender
  6. Place shredded beef in buns, top with cheese, and serve warm

Notes

For best results, use a meat thermometer to check tenderness (195°F)
Non-alcoholic Worcestershire sauce ensures compliance with dietary restrictions
Stir in 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar for added tang
Leftovers refrigerate well for 3-4 days
