Ingredients

  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • Salt to taste
  • 8 slices crispy bacon substitute (e.g., marinated chicken strips or smoked almonds)
  • 1/2 cup pure maple syrup (Grade B recommended)
  • 3 cloves fresh garlic (minced or pressed)
  • 1/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)

Method

  1. Adjust oven rack to the lower third and preheat oven to 375°F
  2. Season chicken breasts with black pepper and salt
  3. Cook the crispy bacon substitute in a skillet over medium heat until golden, then set aside
  4. In the same pan, sauté garlic until fragrant
  5. Pour maple syrup and soy sauce into the pan, scraping up any browned bits
  6. Simmer the glaze until slightly thickened (5-7 minutes)
  7. Place seared chicken breasts in the pan, coat with glaze, and bake for 25-30 minutes until chicken is cooked through
  8. Rest chicken for 5 minutes, then top with the crispy substitute and reduce glaze further in the oven if desired
  9. Serve warm with remaining sauce

Notes

Chicken strips provide the most authentic texture for the bacon substitute
Smoked almonds or toasted coconut flakes work as alternative options for texture
Leftovers store well in the fridge for up to 3 days
