Honey Soy Chicken Drumsticks

These Honey Soy Chicken Drumsticks feature a savory-sweet glaze that caramelizes perfectly in the oven, creating a sticky, glossy finish on juicy, tender meat. Using bone-in, skin-on drumsticks ensures maximum flavor and moisture, while the aromatic base of fresh garlic, ginger, and onion adds depth. This simple, family-friendly dish is an ideal choice for a quick weeknight meal that tastes like it came from a gourmet kitchen.

Ingredients

  • 8 count chicken drumsticks (bone-in, skin-on)
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1/3 cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons garlic, freshly chopped
  • 2 tablespoons fresh ginger, minced
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • Kosher salt and black pepper to taste
  • Green onions for garnish

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.
  2. Wash the chicken drumsticks and pat them completely dry with a kitchen towel.
  3. Place the dried drumsticks into a 10.6 by 7-inch baking dish.
  4. Season the chicken evenly on all sides with kosher salt and black pepper.
  5. In a medium bowl, whisk together the honey, soy sauce, sesame oil, onion, garlic, ginger, and smoked paprika.
  6. Pour the marinade over the chicken, ensuring each piece is thoroughly coated.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 40 minutes, turning the chicken halfway through to ensure even caramelization.
  8. Remove from the oven, garnish with fresh green onions, and serve warm.

Notes

Use tamari instead of soy sauce if you need the recipe to be gluten-free. For extra crispy skin, you can broil the drumsticks for the last 2-3 minutes of cooking, keeping a close eye to prevent the honey from burning.
