Ingredients
  

  • 1 large loaf Italian bread (or sourdough/baguette)
  • 1 lb thinly sliced beef steak (skirt or flat iron)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil (or avocado oil)
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 small onion, sliced (yellow or red)
  • 1/2 cup sliced bell peppers, assorted colors
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella (part-skim)
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar (sharp or mild)
  • 4 tbsp melted butter
  • 3 cloves minced garlic
  • 1 tbsp chopped parsley (or oregano)

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F
  2. Cut top third off bread loaf and hollow interior, leaving 1/2-inch walls
  3. Season beef with salt, pepper, and garlic powder
  4. Heat oil in skillet, cook beef (5-7 minutes) until browned
  5. Add onions and bell peppers to skillet (cook 5-10 minutes) until softened
  6. Return beef mixture to stove, stir in garlic and melted butter
  7. Fold in mozzarella and cheddar cheese until combined
  8. Fill hollowed bread with cheese-beef mixture
  9. Replace bread top, bake (15-20 minutes) until crust is golden and cheese is melted

Notes

Use gluten-free bread for accommodation
Butter can be substituted with clarified butter
Add frozen garlic powder if fresh unavailable
Store in airtight container up to 3 days
Refrigerate assembled loaf up to 24 hours before baking
